Understanding Cron Formatting
Cron is a time-based job scheduler in Unix-like computer operating systems. Users who set up and maintain software environments use cron to schedule jobs (commands or shell scripts) to run periodically at fixed times, dates, or intervals.
Syntax Origins
The cron expression consists of five fields that describe individual details of the schedule. These fields are separated by white space. Despite being invented in the 1970s, the syntax has remained largely unchanged and is notoriously difficult to read for humans.
