The Coleco ADAM was a weirdly overengineered machine that had a heavy case only equalled by the old IBM Pentium 3 machine that I had my development copy of arXiv on. The high cost of floppy drives was a big problem in the early 1980s and there were a few home computers that tried unusual solutions, not least the Digital Data Pack on the ADAM which was a modified cassette drive that could be rewound/fast-forwarded under program control. It was such a strange machine, built around a daisy wheel printer and powered by both a Z80 and a 6801 CPU.
